Offshore Kite / Live Bait Fshing

Offshore kite fishing is one of the most productive ways to fish the “Edge” off of West Palm Beach. The “Edge” is the major drop off going from 80’ deep to 200’ plus in a very short distance where just about every pelagic fish is looking for a meal.

Kite fishing is a fishing technique we use to keep live bait on the surface of the water and away from the boat. Kite fishing can be very exciting, you actually see the fish come up and eat the bait .This fishing technique is primarily used in South Florida along the Atlantic coast to catch sailfish. We also catch Dolphin (mahi mahi), kingfish, black fin tuna, yellow fin tuna, wahoo, or any other hungry predator that comes by.

Kite fishing involves a specially designed kite that is flown away from the boat and has up to three live bait drop lines hanging from it. The kite is flown off its own often short rod and reel. The kite rig consists of a kite, 80lb braided line, 3 release clips and that are spaced out on the line with different size swivels. Once the kite is flying a very short distance from the boat we start attaching are live bait rigs to the release clips. Each live bait rigs is rigged to its own rod and reel and the attached to the release clip on the kite line. We then bridle rig live bait to the hook and let out the fishing line and the kite line to place the bait away from the boat. We fish up to three baits per kite spaced 75’ apart and up to two kites on any West Palm Beach fishing charter. The live bait of choice in south Florida is a Goggle eyes and blue runners. When a fish does bite, the line releases from the clip on the kite line and now your free to fight the fish direct from your fishing rod. This fishing technique allows us to create a very natural live bait presentation, while at the same time covering a large span of water which would otherwise be unobtainable by other fishing tactics. The key to successful day kite fishing is keeping the baits right on the surface splashing and making lots of commotion. With four to six live baits splashing on the surface almost guarantees a hook up.

Offshore Trolling

Trolling is a very effective fishing method offshore of West Palm Beach. Trolling is where the boat is constantly moving 5-8 mph while 4 to 7 baits are dragged behind the boat. The most common fish caught offshore of Palm Beach are Mahi Mahi, Tuna, Sailfish, Bonita, Kingfish, and Wahoo. Trolling allows us to cover lots of water with many different types of bait to find and catch fish. Some of our best baits are ballyhoo, split-tail mullet, Bonita strips and artificial lures. All our baits are custom rigged by us before each and every charter, no store bought pre-rigs. Our typical trolling spread consists of 4 surface baits that mimic the abundant flying fish, 2 baits just under the surface, and 1 deep bait usually 40-50 feet deep. We also use a variety of teasers while trolling depending on the time of year, like dredges. A dredge is a subsurface teaser pulled close to the boat with 15 to 45 baits without hooks to mimic a school of bait. Sailfish are highly attracted to these dredges along with other pelagic fish. With many baits and teasers in the water you can count on lots of action and possibly multiple hookups at once.

Fish South Florida With Us!

In addition to fantastic off shore and inshore fishing, the Palm Beach inlet/ entrance of Lake Worth has a wide variety of fish to catch. Vast volumes of water are flowing in and out if the inlet with the changing tides. This brings fish like Tarpon, Spinner sharks, Jacks, permit and Barracuda into play. When it is too rough to get offshore, the inlet offers a calm alternative for the day.
